Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef, 80/20 blend works best for flavor and texture
- 1/2 yellow onion, diced
- 1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
- 1 can (14 oz) green beans, drained well before adding
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided for layering and topping
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, adds a savory umami punch
- to taste salt, pepper, and garlic powder
- 1 bag (28 oz) frozen tater tots, you'll have some leftover for snacking
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and diced onion, breaking up the meat as it cooks for about 5-7 minutes until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is softened.
- Add Seasonings: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, mixing well to coat all the beef and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Combine with Sauce: Add the cream of mushroom soup and the drained green beans, stirring until everything is evenly combined and the mixture is hot throughout, about 2-3 minutes.
- Mix in Cheese: Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese until it melts completely into the mixture.
- Assemble and Bake
- Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Add the Beef Layer: Spread the hot beef and green bean mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Top with Tater Tots: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture, covering as much surface area as possible for maximum crispiness.
- Finish with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots, then bake for 25-30 minutes until the tots are golden brown and crispy and the cheese is bubbly.
