How to Make Frozen Hash Browns Crispy in Your Oven

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

These crispy oven-baked hash browns feature frozen potatoes tossed in a coating of olive oil and melted butter, then baked until golden and deliciously crunchy. Perfect for busy mornings, weekend brunches, or as a versatile side dish that can be customized with cheese, vegetables, or your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

  • 22 ounces frozen hash browns, no thawing needed, use shredded or diced style
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, for even coverage and crispiness
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, adds richness and golden color
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, optional, add halfway through baking

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to reach full temperature, about 10 minutes.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and melted butter, then season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Pour the frozen hash browns onto your prepared baking sheet in a single, even layer.
  5. Drizzle the oil and butter mixture over the potatoes and toss gently to coat every piece evenly.
  6. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even browning on all sides.
  7. If using cheese, sprinkle the shredded cheddar evenly over the hash browns and return to the oven.
  8. Bake for an additional 10 minutes until the hash browns are golden brown and crispy on the edges, with the cheese melted and bubbly if used.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 2 minutes before serving to allow the exterior to set.
